Accutane/Isotretinoin series: Please let your moisturizer set!

After some thought, perhaps the best way to value add this blog is to give tips on my current beauty struggles and so thus marks the beginning of the living with accutane/isotretinoin series.

Ever since I started on Accutane/istotretinoin, the number 1 rule for applying face makeup is:

Let your moisturizer absorb into your skin first!

Gone are the days when I can just continuously slap on products and be good to go. Now I have to wait 10-20 minutes before I can start on the rest of my face faceup after moisturizing.

What is so bad about not waiting?

Your skin doesn't fully absorb the product = your skin is not as moisturized as it should be = watch the crazy dry patches and flakes appear!

As an oily skin gal all my life, I am extremely used to setting my makeup with powder. With the new medication that I am on, not setting it is not an option either, because I just look like a greaseball/shiny face ahoy. Since I was a crazy shopper and bought a ton of BB creams and emollient foundations before sense rolled in, I have enough 'moisturizing' or simply less drying foundations to last the whole treatment. However, they look too 'wet' on my skin, and my skin still gets greasy quickly!

Now I struggle along with oily but dehydrated skin *faints*

P.S. The accutane has resulted in the fastest turnover of outbreaks I have ever seen. Pimples take 1 day to form, 1 day to erupt and then they slowly subside. I just hope my skin can last throughout the duration of this fermentaion.

VanityTrove February 2012 Unboxing!

So one or two weeks ago, I received my February's edition of VanityTrove. Now I started subscribing in January and January's box was just so-so, the highlights being 2 OPI Nicki Minaj minis but this month is so much better!

This month's box came just like this, there was no excess packaging so great job for improving and having less waste!

The trademark purple mesh paper and the rose petals inside. I can't bear to throw them away so I'm saving them for birthdays when I can spring them onto the birthday girl. *throwing dried roses on my friends...wonder how that would go down*

This month's theme. Honestly, I think last month's theme was like this as well?

O.o Dior, lashes, OMG Candydoll (excitement level through the roof) and Tinkerbell??

My pretties! Look at how pretty it is! My heart seriously jumped up in delight when I first saw all these products :D

First part of it. The lashes look overly dramatic but this is a good lash brand, the other lashes that I tried from Star Lash were pretty comfortable

Samples of Candydoll base makeup. I seriously hoped that they were deluxe samples instead but this is better than nothing! It is strange how the shade changes from 01 and 02, but I guess it to reach out to as many people as possible, after all it's not like the team can predict every individual's shade range (I should be 02/03). This is much better than nothing so I'm looking forward to trying them!

Now for the Tinkerbell look-a-like. It's acutally Princess Pinki, which is a natural dye to make your lips and nipples naturally pink, a sort of lip stain. I tried it on my lips and it looked normal for a while, but turned into a fushia pink on my lips! I had to rub it off, and to it's credit, it gave a nice pink gently bitten stain. The aftermath was horrible though, it stained my hands when I tried to wash it off, then it stained my towels! Since the product is clear for the first 5-10 minutes, it's easy to accidentally rub it onto a bodypart or towel and watch in despair as things around you are stained pink =/

The rest of the samples. More perfumes and 3 Dior deluxe sample sizes!

Considering how miserly SAs in Singapore can be, I'm truly pleased with the high end samples and this month's VanityTrove in general. While the only 'full' size products were a set of lashes and a pink stain, the value of the high end samples are more than enough to make me happy :D Is it worth $25/month? Well the lashes alone are about $11-12 so I guess it's up to your own judgement really. I'm a big fan of Tsubasa Masukawa and I always wanted to try the Candydoll range (though I feel it would probably not work for me at all) so this month's items pleases me loads.

All in all this was a good beauty box for the month!
