Day 19: Enavose Cellogist Youth Guard Cream

So it's the Enavose Cellogist Youth Guard Cream today. I got this as part of a Bellabox beauty box and it's pretty nice. For a sample this has a pretty nifty pump, twist right to lock it and you can't pump anything out and twist left to unlock it.

The cream itself has a rather herbal smell that I do not favour and it absorbs rather quickly into the skin, so I wake up in the morning with more or less dry skin. For dry/combination skin types like me, I wouldn't recommend it.

Would I repurchase? Nope

Day 18: The Body Shop Body Butter - Cocoa Butter

My first body butter from The Body Shop and it's...all right. I bought this as part of a Christmas coffret with the cocoa butter lipbalm for S$14.90. Considering that the lip balm is full-sized, it's a pretty good deal. Pity about the excessive packaging though! Makes me wonder if TBS is as eco-friendly as they promote themselves...

This body butter has a very smooth silicony feel to it. It fits its name in how smoothly it glides onto the skin but that made me feel that it's pretty artifical and is used up pretty fast. For this sample size of 50ml I used it up in about 5 days! I use lotions for my entire body so buying the full-size seem rather pricey.

Would I buy this? Perhaps when I have some spare cash to toss around!

Day 17: Royal Herb EX Cream

Received this from one of my beauty boxes. It is meant to be an anti-aging cream with real gold in it. Gold they say! Despite not having and ever wanting an occupation of a pirate, I wanted to take a look at it. Accompanied by the small sample was a hefty pamplet.

Proclaiming all the nifty and impossibly wonderful effects of using gold on the face.

So it can be used 4 times I see...

Not. I used it up in about 2/3 uses because the cream in which is the gold is suspended in is rather clear and sticky, making it difficult to smooth over the skin so a relatively large portion was needed to cover my face. As for the gold, it was really pretty but it broke down upon application and left sparkles all over my face. Which made it look like I didn't manage to cleanse off shimmer particles from my makeup properly. Yucks!

Would I purchase this? Nope as it's overpriced and I didn't like the texture. It did make my skin feel rather smooth and plump when I woke up, but that effect can be achieved by various moisturizers/serums!

Day 16: Urban Decay Complexion Primer Potion - Brightening & Pore Perfecting

I received this sample from ordering a bunch of makeup during the Urban Decay Friends and Family sale.

Consisting of 2 one time use primers, brightening and pore perfecting.

I was pretty apprehensive about the Brightening Primer since my experience of primers that claim to 'brighten' tend to have pink shimmer in them and makes me paler than I actually am!

After trying out both, I prefer Brightening to Pore Perfecting! Brightening consists of a clear liquid while Pore Perfecting was a white cream (slight white cast) and I felt that Brightening actually did a better job in reducing pore size than the primer that has that namesake.

So Brightening > Pore Perfecting and would I buy Brightening? It is a bit sticky but still tolerable, and the stickiness disappears after applying foundation over. So yes, I would purchase this if/when I'm done trying out primers or use up my primers

Summary of beauty products used in 2012

Although not all my videos and posts on the items that I've used/tossed for 2012 are up yet, let me just summarize the conclusion of my beauty journey in 2012.

In 2011, I had gone on a mad shopping spree accumulating mountains of skincare and fast-forward the makeup collecting stash to about the size of a veteran makeup user/addict. 2012 was the year of trying to condense products and use up my samples. This is the total tally:

Makeup products used: 33

Skincare/Bodycare products used: 112

Tossed items: 36

Given away: 4

However, apart from all this, I counted the products that I've spent my money on, as I tend to receive a lot of beauty items as gifts/hand-me-downs from family and friends.

In 2012, I had spent:

On makeup: $513.40

Tossed makeup: $268.69

On beauty: $1547.89

Tossed beauty: $22

So on average I spent a ton on beauty products and used up most of them, while I've spent quite a bit on makeup but tend to throw away about half the products I use up. That is a pretty high failure usage for me and I must only buy stuff that I will absolutely use in 2013! The value of things that I've used up is far higher than this, so thank you all my friends and family that feed into this addiction of mine!
