Day 19: Enavose Cellogist Youth Guard Cream

So it's the Enavose Cellogist Youth Guard Cream today. I got this as part of a Bellabox beauty box and it's pretty nice. For a sample this has a pretty nifty pump, twist right to lock it and you can't pump anything out and twist left to unlock it.

The cream itself has a rather herbal smell that I do not favour and it absorbs rather quickly into the skin, so I wake up in the morning with more or less dry skin. For dry/combination skin types like me, I wouldn't recommend it.

Would I repurchase? Nope

Day 18: The Body Shop Body Butter - Cocoa Butter

My first body butter from The Body Shop and it's...all right. I bought this as part of a Christmas coffret with the cocoa butter lipbalm for S$14.90. Considering that the lip balm is full-sized, it's a pretty good deal. Pity about the excessive packaging though! Makes me wonder if TBS is as eco-friendly as they promote themselves...

This body butter has a very smooth silicony feel to it. It fits its name in how smoothly it glides onto the skin but that made me feel that it's pretty artifical and is used up pretty fast. For this sample size of 50ml I used it up in about 5 days! I use lotions for my entire body so buying the full-size seem rather pricey.

Would I buy this? Perhaps when I have some spare cash to toss around!

Day 17: Royal Herb EX Cream

Received this from one of my beauty boxes. It is meant to be an anti-aging cream with real gold in it. Gold they say! Despite not having and ever wanting an occupation of a pirate, I wanted to take a look at it. Accompanied by the small sample was a hefty pamplet.

Proclaiming all the nifty and impossibly wonderful effects of using gold on the face.

So it can be used 4 times I see...

Not. I used it up in about 2/3 uses because the cream in which is the gold is suspended in is rather clear and sticky, making it difficult to smooth over the skin so a relatively large portion was needed to cover my face. As for the gold, it was really pretty but it broke down upon application and left sparkles all over my face. Which made it look like I didn't manage to cleanse off shimmer particles from my makeup properly. Yucks!

Would I purchase this? Nope as it's overpriced and I didn't like the texture. It did make my skin feel rather smooth and plump when I woke up, but that effect can be achieved by various moisturizers/serums!

Day 16: Urban Decay Complexion Primer Potion - Brightening & Pore Perfecting

I received this sample from ordering a bunch of makeup during the Urban Decay Friends and Family sale.

Consisting of 2 one time use primers, brightening and pore perfecting.

I was pretty apprehensive about the Brightening Primer since my experience of primers that claim to 'brighten' tend to have pink shimmer in them and makes me paler than I actually am!

After trying out both, I prefer Brightening to Pore Perfecting! Brightening consists of a clear liquid while Pore Perfecting was a white cream (slight white cast) and I felt that Brightening actually did a better job in reducing pore size than the primer that has that namesake.

So Brightening > Pore Perfecting and would I buy Brightening? It is a bit sticky but still tolerable, and the stickiness disappears after applying foundation over. So yes, I would purchase this if/when I'm done trying out primers or use up my primers

Summary of beauty products used in 2012

Although not all my videos and posts on the items that I've used/tossed for 2012 are up yet, let me just summarize the conclusion of my beauty journey in 2012.

In 2011, I had gone on a mad shopping spree accumulating mountains of skincare and fast-forward the makeup collecting stash to about the size of a veteran makeup user/addict. 2012 was the year of trying to condense products and use up my samples. This is the total tally:

Makeup products used: 33

Skincare/Bodycare products used: 112

Tossed items: 36

Given away: 4

However, apart from all this, I counted the products that I've spent my money on, as I tend to receive a lot of beauty items as gifts/hand-me-downs from family and friends.

In 2012, I had spent:

On makeup: $513.40

Tossed makeup: $268.69

On beauty: $1547.89

Tossed beauty: $22

So on average I spent a ton on beauty products and used up most of them, while I've spent quite a bit on makeup but tend to throw away about half the products I use up. That is a pretty high failure usage for me and I must only buy stuff that I will absolutely use in 2013! The value of things that I've used up is far higher than this, so thank you all my friends and family that feed into this addiction of mine!

Bellabox January 2013 (my last beautybox for a while)

So with my new-found unemployment/self employment/start of startup journey, I need to cut unnecessary expenses (oh boy) like excess bodycare, makeup and food purchases (seriously?!). Tabby shall be thrifty and frugal against all odds and so one unnecessary expense would be beautyboxes! I took away my Bellabox account and they gave me the last box that I was due, the January 2013 box. As expected of life, it was epically underwhelming:

Final box ever

A little pinker than previous boxes

Some marketing bumbo jumbo about Chinese New Year

Finally, a list of products!

I like the idea behind it but the execution is poor. The wrapping paper is made from brown recylced paper so it looked so cheap and old.

1. Bunch of Skinfood samples. I was only supposed to get the Watery Berry package in the first picture but I guess they decided to throw in some extras

2. Dynastie Vamp EDP: Never heard of this brand before

Could this be??

Yes! It the blackheads removal tool that facials use to 'cleanse' your pores after steaming it! It's also derided as nothing more than some tool of pain that does not damage to your skin by forcing the oil glands out!

3. Skinmiso - Comedo Remover

4. Ichikami - Shampoo, Conditioner, Intensive Pack Treatment

5. B.Liv - Feel no sluggish: A one time use mask

All in all a complete and total disappointment. Though the comedone remover is worth more than the box itself, it still is a pretty poor box and I guess that's how all things end, with a mere whimper.

Day 15 of samples: Urban Decay Primer Potion

Ah the lovely UDPP! I had a sample size that came with the Naked one palette a long time ago but I've heard that they've reformulated it and changed the packaging so I eagerly anticipated trying this sample!

It feels...pretty nice actually. It was of a thicker consistency compared to the Too Faced Shadow Insurance and quite nice. This can be used for about 2 applications or so though I polished it off after one use! I do like it and will definitely re-buy this once I'm done finishing my TFSI and trying the NARS and Bareminerals primer (which will be in 5 years or so!)

Day 14 of samples: Missha Signature Real Completel BB cream in #23

So today's sample is one of my much aggrevied BB creams that I own. Seduced by the promise of BB creams, let me not rattle on the multitude of promised benefits, but let down by the pinkishness of them all, I had a sample of a BB cream that I actually owned but had never opened. Thank goodness I decided to try this sample before I opened that bottl!

I had already threw the satchet so I only had the unopened box left to show!

Too pink, white cast, I look much fairer that I actually am? Typical BB creams issues. Even though the shade had the name "yellow" in it, it was much too grey/pink, so I decided to donate the full size bottle to a much fairer lady.

Bottom line: Would I purchase it? I already it, but definitely not if I could go back in time!

Day 13 of samples: Organix Moroccan argan oil penetrating oil

The picture says it all.  Today's sample is all about conditioning hair oils for the hair! The moroccan argan oil hair oil smells pretty nice in the sweet argan oil smell but is it a nice hair oil? Not really in my opinion, my hair still had fly-aways and it felt pretty greasy to the touch. One satchet can be used about 3-4 times.

Final word: Would I buy this sample? No.

This series of 30 days of samples has been broken already, but I thought I might as well continue it, posting periodically on the theme of samples and extending it to 100 days of samples. To my embarrassment, I have definitely accumulated more than 100 samples so efforts must be made to steadily use them up in this year. Toodles!

Make Out 2013

Another year, another decision to stop buying makeup and de-cluttering my makeup collection!

In 2011, I bought a crapload of makeup and started my hoarding. In 2012, I pledged to cut down on makeup and I did! Did I buy more than I should? Absolutely. Do I regret it? Yes...and no. I did spend too much in indulging myself, and I enjoyed every moment of it.

But this year is enough and I have pretty much bought anything that I would want! NARS blush? Looked at so many of them and apart from NARS Zen, which I've bought but barely used, I don't feel like getting anything more from there. Contour? MAC Strada, Blunt, Burberry Earthy, Chanel Notorious, etc. That should be enough for oh, 5 years? That, and much more are reasons why I really don't need any makeup at all for at least a year. I do buy when I'm bored/in a bad mood, so here's to an emotionally stable and awesome year ahead!

This post is inspired by Pinksofoxy and her fabulous youtube channel. The style of Makeout 2013 that I'm following will be the similar to Thatgallowaygirl's rules, where I'll take out 120 makeup products and hide away the rest. Whenever I finish any 5 makeup products, I can retrieve one makeup product from my stash as a reward and a treat. After assessing my collection, I really don't need any more makeup for a good 5 years or so...

Splurge-free for 13 days already!
